Kemah Boardwalk

On Monday Al had the whole day off! Yeah!!! Since we didn't get to celebrate the 4th, we decided to do something fun on Monday- kind of a post-holiday. We decided to go and check out the Kemah Boardwalk. It is about 30 minutes east of Pearland, and slightly south. As you approach the town of Kemah the palm trees start getting bigger and more plentiful. It kind of reminded me a little bit of Cocoa Beach. All of the houses are up on stilts. The town is pretty small, but so neat! There was a visitor's center and a light house and there is a harbor that is full of boats. And then rows of old houses, kind of like Victorian style, but not quite...and painted in pastel colors. The houses have been converted into little shops and restaurants. Just around the corner from that is the boardwalk. It is just how you would imagine an old boardwalk! There were several rides to go on, a train, games, booths, restaurants, hot dog stands, portrait painters, etc. There is a quaint little inn (the Inn on the Boardwalk) that has little shops on the bottom floor. There is also an aquarium and some fountains that the kids were splashing in (like at Gateway).

We kind of just walked around at first, taking it all in. We ended up eating at a Mexican restaurant that is right over the water. The food was really good and I had shrimp quesadillas, made with fresh shrimp from the gulf. The restaurant was completely open to the outdoors, and so while you eat you see the boats coming in and out. After lunch Avery and Al hit the rides. I think they both had a blast. I just walked around with James, both of us trying to stay cool. We spent some time exploring the shops, which I think Al was happy to avoid :) I took lots of pictures, none of which are very good. I was just trying to capture the look so that you could all get an idea of the place.

It was such a fun day! We all loved it and I know we will go back several times. It is definitely a place that you would take company.

Now I think one of our next outings is going to be to Galveston to hit the beach.
